John Brown was born in 1931. His sculpture training began at Hornsey School of Art, and continued under Howard Bate R.A. at Hampstead Garden Suburb Institute.

John Brown's sculpture is concerned with human relationships and emotions, expressed in a simplified abstracted way, provoking thought and discussion, as well as visual impact. Themes very often run through a number of completed works as in 'Love of the Family', 'Family at Play', and 'Joy of the Family'. This gives a feeling of recognizable continuity to his sculpture.

His sculpture has been exhibited widely, and is now in many private and corporate collections. Commissions have included a sculpture for the Compassionate Action Award, given by the Reform Club for charity work; a memorial portrait bust of Chief Kenneth Colins Obih was erected in Lagos, Nigeria in May 1991; Kawaguchi Metal Industries purchased a sculpture for their offices in Japan in 1993. In summer 1995, 'Love of the Family' was placed in the children's wing of King's College Hospital and in 1996 a stone carving 'Growth and Security' was commissioned by USS for their offices in Liverpool. 'Unison' was sited at Weston Park Hospital, Sheffield in 1998.

His corporate collectors have also included SmithKline Beecham who purchased two sculptures for their laboratories at Harlow and Racing Green who placed a piece in their premises at Bluewater Retail Park. Works sited in the City of London have been pieces for Tokai Bank and Investec. Millennium projects include 'Joy of the Family' for Priors Court School, Thatcham in January and 'Tete a Tete' sited in Harpenden Town Centre in March.

A high profile commission was the trophy for 'The People's Award' organised by the BBC with a ceremony at the Albert Hall in October 2000. In 2002 his most recent commission was a two piece six foot work entitled 'Interdependency' for Marathon International Petroleum (GB) Ltd for their refurbished London headquarters. In addition the Prudential Insurance Company purchased 'Caring II' for their Art Collection.
